This little guy just may be the next generation to grow up and be a world class long distance runner. You never know what picture just might become your favorite of the day, and I think this is mine. After watching and photographing the half marathon, 10K and 5K, this is the picture that I keep coming back to. Before showing you highlights of the day's races, here a few memorable images of the Kids 5K championship. Enjoy!

The half marathon get's underway with $70,000 on the line. Undoubtedly this race brings the fastest distance runners that Des Moines will see this year.
The 10K race has this pack chasing down a $15,000 payday.

The early leaders in 5K action headed east on Forrest avenue. The two blew the lead wide open just a quarter of a mile into the race.
A pack of twelve runners came out of Gray's Lake around 10 miles into the race. After running up the hill on Grand Avenue, three of the top fastest men fell off the pace just before turning up 28th street for the infamous Bulldog hill. Kimutai Cheruiyot prevails to takes the win.
